Video Dead (1987) 1 brainhalf brain
(USA)

This movie had a lot of good ideas, but they mostly fell flat due to the horrific script and acting. The story is about an evil TV set with zombies that come out of the screen and into the real world. Once they're out, they go on a rampage of bloodlust and destruction, and the only people that can stop them are the stereotypes that the movie has for main characters.

The TV set is in a house where a brother and sister have just moved in, after the previous owner was killed by zombies from the TV, which was delivered to him by mistake. A crazy Texan arrives at their door and tries to tell them of the danger, complete with incoherent warnings and good ol' southern temper, but they ignore him. It's only after the family of the love interest is killed that the Texan pops back up, and they decide that they need his help after all.

There are a few good fight scenes and some original zombie science, and the zombie makeup is actually very good, but in between the fight scenes, things tend to drag. The way the zombies are defeated is a little hokey, too.

It's worth a watch if you're a die-hard fan, if only because of the original ideas, but don't expect to be really entertained, unless you have a high tolerance for low budget and camp.
